Big congratulations to Hana who was awarded student of the week last week. This is a massive honour here at Gisint, and is only given to students who go above and beyond what is expected of them. Hana consistently shows her RISE values, and pushes herself every day in class to be a better version of herself. Well done Hana!

TEAM LEACH SPEECH SEMI FINALS
A couple of weeks ago we held our team speech semi finals to see who would go on to represent us in the school speech finals. We had so many awesome speeches come out of LH1, and many students who moved onto the school finals. We had been working on our speeches for the majority of term 2, and were eager to share them with the rest of our team. I need to say a big congratulations to Max and Matt who were apart of the crew chosen to be in the school finals! So proud of everyone in LH1 who overcame their fears and presented awesome speeches!

School cross country
We have started off term 3 with a bang in LH1! On tuesday we had our annual cross country. Although
the weather was a bit horrible we all had tons of fun running around in the mud and putting in our 100%
excellence. Three of our students placed first in the Yr 8 boys/girls and Yr 7 girls. We are very proud
of the effort everyone put in and of those students who were able to place in the top ten. Ka Pai!

Green Card Day
Today we celebrated the end of term with our annual green card day! Green card is used as a reward
at the end of term for students who have shown their RISE values all term. Students were given an
option of going to the skate park, or going to the movies to watch Toy Story 4. Those of us at the
skatepark were treated to beautiful weather, and delicious pies and doughnuts for lunch. Overall
everyone enjoyed themselves no matter what they chose, and now we are all ready for our holidays.

Survival Bunkers
Over the past two days in LH1 some of the students have been away for Whakatane exchange. While they were gone we investigated natural disasters, and what we can do to prepare and survive. For a bit of fun we created in groups our own survival bunkers for a range of natural (and some unnatural) events. Check some of them out below! We also had Mr. Ashman in the class, who is the school woodwork teacher. He took some students to make a model to show what could happen to a city if a tsunami hit.
Overall we learnt what we can do to prepare for any natural event, and had a bit of fun along the way.

Super stars for this week!
It's Friday! Which means it's time to celebrate some awesome LH1 students! This week our certificates have gone to Matt H, Charlie, Kaden and Chloe C (away for extension). These guys have all stood out to us because of their effort in mathematics. Whether it is for a change in attitude, seeking out support, or always rising to a challenge, they have all impressed us this week. Well done to all of you!

Wellbeing in LH1
Wellbeing in LH1
This term our inquiry focus is all about wellbeing! Part of our inquiry includes meditation when changing between learning areas, and a little bit of fitness every morning! This morning started with rain, but we don't let that stop us! We joined with LH3 and completed our 7 minute challenge in our LH1 learning space. We have found that doing fitness every morning helps wake up our brains and gets us ready for the learning over the day.
